Title: Commercial Manager
We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Commercial Manager to join our Specialist Bridge Inspection and Maintenance contract. This role will be based on site at Severn Bridge Maintenance Unit, Passage Road, Aust, Bristol, BS35 4BD
This position offers a competitive salary and Company Car.
Working with National Highways, Amey maintains the Specialist Bridge Inspection and Maintenance contract (SBIM) for Avonmouth and Severn Bridges.
Amey maintains the three major structures each with unique characteristics and structural complexities; the M5 Avonmouth Bridge spanning 1,400m, the M4 Prince of Wales Bridge which comprises of three structures, the Avon Viaduct (2,100m), Cable Stay (948m) and Gwent Viaduct (2,077m) as well as the M48 Severn Bridge, a suspension bridge, that covers 1,600m of network and has the second highest tidal range in the world at 14.5 metres.
The Amey team is responsible for the cyclic maintenance, daily structure inspection checks and safety patrols as well as responding to any incidents that impact the structural integrity of the bridges.
What You’ll Do:
- Promote the Amey “Zero Harm” Safety Culture and support the Target Zero Action Plans.
- Develop strong relationships with key clients to aid in change and conflict management, helping Amey retain and win future projects.
- Collaborate with Finance for complete project cost control, including budget management and forecasts, CVR reporting, and WIP management as per contract.
- Manage change processes, review proposed work changes, and ensure timely submission of contractual notices and early warnings.
- Support Bid and Estimating teams in winning strategic bids by developing sound commercial solutions.
- Perform people management duties, including Performance Development Reviews, promoting Amey’s Inclusion and Diversity policy, and fostering an open, honest team environment.

What You’ll Bring:
- Degree qualification (RICS accredited or equivalent)
- Experience within the Civils industry, preferably Highways or Bridges
- The ability to create and maintain effective working relationships
- Strong commercial and financial acumen
- Ability to time-manage, set priorities and work to strict deadlines
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word
